Summary

State Religious Neutrality in the Doctrines of the European Court of Human Rights and the Constitutional Court of Lithuania

The article analyses the concept of state religious neutrality in the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights and the Constitutional Court of Lithuania. The different aspects of the concept of state neutrality in relation to religion are revealed, which allows to compare and highlight the doctrinal similarities and differences of this concept. The article concludes that state neutrality is a derivative principle in the doctrines of both courts, the purpose of which is mainly to restrict the state in order to ensure the widest possible right to freedom of religion in a democratic society.
