Summary

Distance, Nearness, Distancelessness (M. Heidegger)

The article presents Heidegger's analysis of distance in relation to his basic philosophemes of the worldliness of the world and handiness, among others. This analysis is linked to his phenomenology of science, his phenomenology of space, and his consideration of the question of technology. As a kind of counterpart to Dasein's distanceness, distancelessness (Abstandlosigkeit) is presented as a state in which there is no longer a distinction between nearness and farness, or no distinction at all, since the absence of distance and nearness dominates everywhere. The relation of this to Western metaphysics, modern natural science and technology is shown. It shows how the analysis of distance and distancelessness relates to the reflection on Gestell.
